OUR NATURAL STONE

Throughout history, civilizations have trusted natural stone for its strength, beauty, and permanence. StoneTech continues that tradition in Medford, Oregon — bringing you granite, marble, quartzite, and more, fabricated with today's most advanced tools.

NATURAL STONE

Natural stone is formed over millions of years beneath the earth's surface — making every slab a completely one-of-a-kind piece of the planet. No two slabs share the same pattern, colour, or character. That uniqueness is precisely what makes it so enduring as a design material.

StoneTech sources its natural stone through Elemar Oregon and Bedrosians (which acquired Oregon Tile & Marble), giving our Medford customers access to one of the largest and most diverse selections of natural stone in Southern Oregon — shipped from quarries throughout Brazil, Italy, India, Turkey, and beyond.

GRANITE Quarried in Brazil, India, Norway & beyond

Granite is one of the hardest natural materials on earth — formed deep in the earth's crust over millions of years. Its extraordinary durability, heat resistance, and resistance to scratches make it the most popular choice for kitchen countertops in Medford and throughout Southern Oregon.

Each granite slab is entirely unique, featuring natural mineral variations of feldspar, quartz, mica, and amphibole that create patterns ranging from subtle speckle to dramatic flowing movement.

  • Extremely hard and scratch-resistant (Mohs 6–7)

  • Heat-resistant — safe for hot pans directly on surface

  • Available in hundreds of colours and patterns

  • Ideal for kitchens, outdoor kitchens, and high-traffic surfaces

  • Requires sealing every 1–3 years

MARBLE: AN ELEGANT LUXURY

Marble is the enduring symbol of luxury and refinement. Formed from limestone subjected to intense heat and pressure over millennia, marble's soft veining, cool surface, and luminous quality have made it the material of choice for bathrooms, fireplace surrounds, and statement surfaces for thousands of years.

While marble is softer and more porous than granite — making it more susceptible to etching from acidic substances — its unmatched elegance makes it a prized choice for lower-traffic surfaces and feature applications.

  • Timeless elegance — classic and contemporary design

  • Ideal for bathroom vanities, shower surrounds, and fireplace surrounds

  • Cool, smooth surface — naturally comfortable underfoot

  • Requires sealing and careful maintenance

  • Honed or polished finishes available

Popular MARBLE VARIETIES

From crisp Carrara whites to dramatic black marble — our selection spans the full spectrum of marble character and colour.

QUARTZITE —
A MISUNDERSTOOD BEAUTY

Quartzite is one of the most misunderstood stones — often confused with both marble (for its appearance) and engineered quartz (for its name). It is a 100% natural metamorphic rock formed from sandstone under intense heat and pressure, resulting in a surface that combines marble's dramatic aesthetics with granite's durability.

If you love the look of marble but need the performance of a harder stone for your kitchen, quartzite is an exceptional choice.

  • Natural stone — not engineered, not manufactured

  • Harder than marble — significantly more scratch-resistant

  • Marble-like veining and movement without the high maintenance

  • Heat-resistant and suitable for kitchen use

  • Each slab is dramatically unique

TRAVERTINE QUARRIED IN TURKEY, ITALY & MEXICO

Travertine is a form of limestone deposited by mineral-rich hot springs, giving it a distinctive natural texture with characteristic pitting and channelling. Its warm, earthy tones — cream, beige, gold, and rusty red — bring an organic, timeless warmth to any space.

Often seen in bathroom flooring, feature walls, and fireplace surrounds, travertine is available in filled/honed finishes for smooth contemporary applications or unfilled for a more rustic, textural look.

  • Warm cream, beige, gold, and walnut tones

  • Filled & honed or unfilled finishes available

  • Excellent for bathrooms, fireplace surrounds, and feature walls

  • More porous than granite — requires sealing

  • Develops beautiful natural patina over time

SOAPSTONE

Soapstone has a rich history in American homes — used for centuries in fireplaces, kitchen counters, and laboratory surfaces. Its high talc content gives it a smooth, slightly soft feel and remarkable resistance to heat, acids, and staining — making it naturally non-porous without requiring sealants.

Available in rich charcoal greys with soft white veining, soapstone develops a beautiful natural patina over time and can be oiled to deepen and enrich its colour.

  • Naturally non-porous — no sealing required

  • Highly heat-resistant — ideal for fireplace surrounds

  • Acid-resistant — unaffected by lemon juice or wine

  • Develops rich patina with mineral oil treatment

  • Softer than granite — may develop character marks over time

Caring for Natural Stone

Natural stone is built to last generations. A little routine care keeps it looking its best for decades.

Seal Regularly

Most natural stone should be sealed every 1–3 years depending on stone type and use. StoneTech seals all surfaces as part of installation. We recommend a quality penetrating stone sealer for ongoing maintenance.

Avoid Harsh Chemicals

Use pH-neutral cleaners on natural stone. Avoid vinegar, lemon juice, bleach, or ammonia-based products — especially on marble and travertine, which can etch from acidic contact. Mild dish soap and warm water is ideal for daily cleaning.

Use Cutting Boards
& Trivets

While granite is heat-resistant, using trivets for very hot pans is a good habit. Always use a cutting board — even granite can be dulled by sharp knives over time, and chopping directly on stone will dull your knives faster.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What types of natural stone does StoneTech carry in Medford, Oregon?

StoneTech carries granite, marble, quartzite, travertine, and soapstone sourced through Elemar Oregon and Bedrosians (formerly Oregon Tile & Marble). Each stone type offers unique aesthetics and performance characteristics suited to different applications and budgets. Visit our Medford showroom to see current slab selections in person.

Is granite or marble better for kitchen countertops?

Granite is generally the better choice for kitchen countertops due to its exceptional hardness, heat resistance, and resistance to scratches and staining when sealed. Marble is softer and more porous, making it susceptible to etching from acidic substances like lemon juice and wine — though it remains a popular choice for lower-traffic surfaces and is prized for its timeless elegance in bathroom vanities and fireplace surrounds.

What is the difference between quartzite and quartz countertops?

Quartzite is a 100% natural metamorphic rock formed from sandstone — it is mined and cut into slabs just like granite or marble. Engineered quartz (such as Caesarstone or Silestone) is a manufactured product made from approximately 90–93% crushed quartz crystals bound with resins. Quartzite has a natural, completely unique look similar to marble but is significantly harder and more durable.

Does natural stone need to be sealed?

Yes, most natural stone surfaces benefit from sealing to protect against stains and moisture absorption. Granite typically needs sealing every 1–3 years depending on use and porosity. Marble and travertine are more porous and may require more frequent sealing. Soapstone is the exception — it is naturally non-porous and does not require sealant. StoneTech seals all natural stone surfaces as part of the installation process.

Where does StoneTech source its natural stone?

StoneTech sources its natural stone through Elemar Oregon and Bedrosians (which acquired Oregon Tile & Marble), giving our Medford customers access to a large and diverse selection of granite, marble, quartzite, travertine, and soapstone shipped from quarries throughout Brazil, Italy, India, Turkey, Norway, Spain, and beyond.

How long does natural stone last as a countertop?

Natural stone countertops, when properly fabricated, installed, and maintained, can last the lifetime of a home — often 50 years or more. Granite and quartzite are among the most durable countertop materials available. Proper sealing and routine care with pH-neutral cleaners are the keys to maintaining their appearance and performance long-term.
